Planning & Research Session Descriptions 

 IIPS SUMMER 2006 ANNUAL CONFERENCE

CHARLOTTE, NC

Tuesday, July 25, 2006

 

8:30 - 10:00 am        Achieving the Dream: Use of Data: Dr. Kathryn Baker Smith, Vice President for Educational Support Services, Guilford Technical Community College; LaSylvia Pugh, Research Analyst, Durham Technical Community College; Bill Thompson, Director, Planning and Research, Wayne Community College.

Colleges with Achieving the Dream grants must use data on student success to plan and evaluate interventions. After a year of planning and a year of implementation, these colleges will share results showing how they have used data to plan to increase student success, and how interventions have affected student success.

 

 

10:15 - 11:45 am     Accessing Student Information Using the CIS: Tracy Medford,

                                   Registrar, Mayland Community College; Cassie Forbes,

                                   Assistant Registrar, Mayland Community College; Rhia

                                   Crawford, Dean of Business, Engineering, and Public Service

                                   Technologies, Mayland Community College.

                                    This ssession will involve a demonstration of how to look up students information such as full-time part-time status, current program of study, past programs of study, original semester of entrance, current enrollment status, etc. A demonstration of various registration and asmissions screens will be presented.

 

 

2:45 - 4:15 pm          Business Continuity Plan Panel Discussion: Susanne Adams, Vice President of Planning and Special Projects, Sandhills Community College; Pat Perry, Planning and Research Director, Wilson Technical Community College; Bill Thompson, Director of Planning and Research, Wayne Community College; Sherry Shaw, Vice President, Planning and Information Services, Surry Community College (Retired).

This session will involve a discussion of the Business Continuity Plan. The panelists are coordinating the development of the BCP at their respective colleges and will discuss the progress made to date and anticipated next steps.

 

 

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

 

8:30 - 10:00 am         IPEDS Tools for Retrieving Data: Keith Brown, Associate Vice President for Planning, Accountability, Research and Evaluation, System Office.

                                    This session will provide a demonstration of multiple methods to extract data drom the IPEDS, including the IPEDS cutting tool, the Peer Analysis System, and the College opportunities On Line (COOL).

 

10:15 - 11:45 am      Planning and Research Roundtable: Keith Brown, Associate Vice President for Planning, Accountability, Research and Evaluation, System Office.
A review and discussion of current issues realted to planning and research.
